This workshop, led by pastor and worship leader, Sue Conrad, will help you sharpen your storytelling skills so that your point is poignant and your story is effectively presented. We’ll discuss some of the unique characteristics of telling biblical stories in the worship setting, applicable to preachers, worship leaders, and children’s story tellers alike!

Most all of us concede the scriptures to have power waiting to be unleashed. Many of us use our eyes to read the scriptures silently. A few toil over scriptures, parsing and interpreting its message, using our eyes and brains in tandem. But sometimes the power of scripture is waiting to enter through the ear on its way to the heart. Blaine Detwiler (co-pastor of Lakeview Mennonite Church) will explore the ‘art’ of reading scripture to be heard.

Is “liturgy” a negative word for you, or does it surround your soul with comfort and inspiration? Sandy Drescher-Lehman (associate pastor at Souderton Mennonite Church) will guide us in looking at liturgy as the glue that holds the theme of a worship service together – special prayers, litanies, greeting times, and other unique elements important to your congregation. Bring one or two of your favorite resources to share as well as an empty sheet of paper to begin creating!

Leading congregational prayer provides an opportunity to be transformed by God’s love and help others to be blessed with the Holy Spirit’s presence. Sandy Landes (Franconia Conference prayer ministry coordinator) will inspire and encourage worship leaders to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in using written and spontaneous prayers, including scripture, and embrace the holistic nature of the worshiper, using our body, mind and spirit in congregational prayer.

How can worship cultivate transformation and discipleship beyond the sermon, worship leader and preacher? In what ways can congregations move from sharing concerns to expressing joy and struggle in authentic ways? Steve Kriss (director of leadership development for Franconia Conference) will explore the possibilities of multi-vocal or Christ-centered worship that recognizes the path of the Radical Reformation toward the Spirit’s movement among those who gather to follow Jesus.
